At Evolutions School of Ballet, we provide high calibre ballet training by professional and exceptional dance educators who use a relationship and strengths based approach to teaching.

Through our holistic approach to technique and training, we bring out each dancer’s artistry, musicality and foster a true love for ballet. Our ballet faculty are carefully selected for their specialized education in Classical Ballet, as well as their teaching experience and understanding of child development.

The Evolutions School of Ballet is one of the only ballet schools in Calgary to teach the Cecchetti Method of Classical Ballet.

Small class sizes allow for individual attention, helping to ensure all our ballet students grow as dancers.

WHY
We believe there is so much value in an approach that considers the needs of the whole dancer, working collaboratively, and doing so in a way where the dancer feels respected and safe. This is what we hope for in a ballet school for our own children, and this is WHY we do what we do.

HOW
Through a solid understanding of child development, focus on safe dance practice (mental, physical & emotional), and using pedagogical approaches that consider the dancer as a unique individual, ballet is taught through a skills and technique focused, progressive and developmentally appropriate method, while also focusing on artistry and musicality. All of this combined contributes to the creation of ballet dancers who truly love and appreciate ballet as an art form.  Under the direction of ESD Ballet Director, Miss Natalka Lewis (BA Dance, Associate Diploma CC-CICB, MA Counseling Psychology, PBT US), all faculty members of the Evolutions School of Ballet bring with them a vast background in various ballet techniques, approaches to teaching, experience working with children and youth, and an absolute love of ballet.

WHAT
The Cecchetti Method of Classical Ballet was developed to educate and prepare dancers with material that is appropriate to their growing bodies. Dancers are required to learn concepts and theories of movement, through a syllabus that teaches the basic structure of each individual step and musical phrasing. Our Foundational Preschool Ballet students learn foundational ballet technique from a play-inspired approach, following a framework developed by ESD Director, Stephanie Knowler (BA, BEd., MA). Dancers from the Beginner level and up in both our Foundational and Intensive Programs are taught elements from the Cecchetti Method of Ballet and Open Studies from various ballet styles, syllabi, and approaches. Students in our Intensive Program participate in examinations offered by Cecchetti Canada.
